Meet Sonia Martinez
Sonia has worked toward the advancement of Latinos in Idaho for over 15 years in the areas of housing, education, and workforce development. Her experience as a Workforce Development Specialist for the Department of Labor, gave her a deeper recognition of the hardships faced by Latinos. Sonia later transitioned to community and economic development to help find solutions to asset development for Latino families.
In her position as Community and Economic Development specialist for Partners for Prosperity a nonprofit organization, Sonia founded the Latino Economic and Development Center a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide tools in asset development for Latinos in Idaho.
As a board member of the National Association for Latino Asset Builders (NALCAB), she is involved on a national level to create assets and wealth in Latino communities as well as shape policy that benefits Latino families. She has been recognized for her service in the Latino community by the Idaho Department of Labor, Idaho State University, Boise State University, the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the Boy Scouts of America, and the Idaho Latino Chamber of Commerce.
She has a B.A. in Organizational Communications from Idaho State University (ISU) and is a certified Professional Community and Economic Developer. She is a 2007 Boise State University Women’s Center “Woman Making History in Idaho” honoree for her efforts in assisting Latino entrepreneurs.
Sonia brings enormous compassion, knowledge and practicality to the people she serves and gives a voice, access and independence to Latino’s throughout southeastern Idaho.
